Reading Scripts. In his book, On Writing, Stephen King said if you’re a writer, you should be reading. As screenwriter, he isn’t as strong, but he is prolific as a novelist. I relate to him because we both grew up poor. We both hustled in college (I never stole from grocery stores though.)

We both feel like we’re haunted if we’re not writing. None can say he isn’t at the top of the horror game. If novel writers should read novels, screen writers should read scripts.

Instead of going to Reddit and asking other writers, spend your time studying how screenwriters executed their screenplays.

Simply Scripts

The Internet Movie Script Database is here for you. It also ads and you have to read the whole script on the site.

I prefer to download from Script Reader Pro.

There are free screenwriting resources out there.

If you want a verified certificate from edX its $199. It may be a good resume feature, but the knowledge is free. The screenwriting courses are via the illustrious The University of Cambridge. Futurelearn is also from the UK. The The Young Screenwriters program is through a prominent NY school.

I signed up at edX. They have a lot of courses beyond writing that could benefit your self development.

Future learn also has very beginner friendly courses.

This course is instructed by a film school professor who wants to help new emerging writers find their voices.

Don’t Forget: Write Scripts. Writers write. This is self explanatory. You always need to have something to show. Agents want product to sale. If there is not product, you can’t make money. If you’re not working those muscles they will not grow. Just do it.

Write on, y’all.
